Capcom celebrates Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess launch with traditional Japanese theatre show

To celebrate today’s launch of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Capcom has released a video performance of a traditional Japanese theatre show detailing its story.

It’s performed by the National Bunraku Theatre, an Osaka-based company celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Bunraku theatre combines narrative recitation, puppetry, and music, dating back to the Edo period from 1603 to 1868.

The performance is a tribute to the new game, which is steeped in Japanese folklore.

Moomins coming to Journey dev's Sky: Children of the Light this year

Tove Jansson’s beloved Moomins are heading to Journey developer ThatGameCompany’s acclaimed free-to-play “social adventure” Sky: Children of the Light this autumn, and there’s more news on its upcoming animated series Sky: The Two Embers, which is now due next year.

Sky: Children of the Light, which initially launched for iOS back in 2019 before expanding to PC and consoles, is a sort of leisurely puzzle adventure set among the different realms of a beautiful kingdom in the clouds – and it’s all built around a gently collaborative multiplayer core designed to encourage “compassion, friendship, and altruism”.

It’s also a game that follows a live-service-style seasonal model, with those seasons occasionally featuring collaborations with other properties and peo…

Historical fantasy RPG GreedFall 2 launches into Steam early access this September

GreedFall 2: The Dying World, the sequel to 2019’s scrappy but enjoyable historical fantasy RPG GreedFall, will launch into Steam early access on 24th September this year.

Despite its rough edges, the original GreedFall was a bit of a surprise hit, its blend of RPG action and BioWare-style player choice striking enough of a chord that it went on to sell 2m copies. So it wasn’t a huge surprise when developer Spiders announced plans for a follow-up in 2022.

As we learned at the time, GreedFall 2 begins three years prior to the events of the first game, casting players as a Teer Fradee native, uprooted from their island home and taken to the continent of Gacane. Here, they must use “diplomacy, cunning, or combat”, as well as help from their allies, to regain the…

External translators hired for Nintendo projects bemoan lack of credit in "almost every big title"

Translators contracted from firms outside of Nintendo have complained about not being credited for their work on high-profile games from the Mario maker, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario RPG.
Speaking with Game Developer, anonymous sources who worked for external translator agencies on Nintendo’s projects said they had been left off credits. In addition, sources said they had been asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement which prevented them from talking about their work for 10 years.
“I kind of accepted [miscrediting] as ‘part of the business’ but that doesn’t mean it’s fair or right,” one source who worked on Nintendo projects through service providers Localsoft and Keywords told the publication. …

Battlefield 2042's limited-time Dead Space crossover is now underway

If the absence of any positive Dead Space 2 remake news has been getting you down, there’s at least one new way to get a bit of Necromorph in your life right now, even if it’s probably not quite what fans were hoping for. EA’s sci-fi horror series is the focus of a new Battlefield 2024 limited-time PvE mode, Outbreak, which is available to play now.

Outbreak, described as a “high-intensity survival mode”, pits up to four players against hordes of Augmented Targets (which regrettably look more like slightly fleshy crash test dummies than Necromorphs) as they travel across the Redacted map toward their extraction point.

Starting at the western end, the goal is to pass through eight sectors while facing off against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Player…

Elden Ring's "scadutree" is not pronounced the way you think it is

Guess what, Tarnished? We’ve all been saying Elden Ring DLC’s “Scadutree” incorrectly.
According to VaatiVidya’s fascinating video Amazing Secrets in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, scadu is derived from ancient English and is pronounced “sha-doe” rather than “ska-doo”… which, let’s face it, makes much more sense given the DLC’s subtitle.
Jump to 510s/8m30s on the video below to hear the correct pronunciation for yourself:

Xbox Cloud Gaming will reportedly let players stream any game in their library from November

Microsoft is reportedly set to significantly expand Xbox Cloud Gaming’s capabilities next month, introducing the ability for Xbox players to stream any of their purchased games.

To date, Xbox Cloud Gaming’s streaming features have only been available across a select number of Game Pass titles, but Microsoft has long had ambitions to enable players to stream any game they own. And that feature, The Verge now writes, is nearly here.

Citing “sources familiar with [the company’s] plans”, The Verge says Microsoft will introduce the ability to stream “thousands” of Xbox titles – not just those available via Game Pass – starting in November, as part of a long-running internal initiative known as Project Lapland.

Palworld PS5 release finally available in Japan, despite looming Nintendo lawsuit

Palworld is, belatedly, now available in Japan on PlayStation 5.
Palworld first released on PlayStation consoles last month. However, while Pocketpair’s monster-catching survival game debuted on PS5 across 68 countries and regions worldwide, it was not released in Japan at the same time.
A reason for this omission was not given, although it was surmised it was due to the fact Nintendo is suing Pocketpair for patent infringement.
