Sea of Thieves' fire-belching, 10-cannon warship sets sail next week

Things are about to get lively on the Sea of Thieves! After spending far too long as giant, trash-talking disembodied head, the nefarious Captain Flameheart finally makes a proper return to Rare’s multiplayer pirate adventure next Thursday, 25th July – and he’ll be terrorising players with his formidable fire-belching warship as Season 13 gets underway.

As Rare explained earlier this year, that warship, The Burning Blade, serves as a new roving world event out on the waves, giving players the opportunity to go head-to-head against its awesome firepower if they so choose. The Burning Blade is officially the most powerful ship in Sea of Thieves, sporting ten cannons, the ability launch Ashen Roar balls of fire from its flaming bow, and a sizeable crew of obsidian…

EA's Sports FC team isn't worried about that rumoured FIFA revival

The development team behind EA Sports FC 25 – which launches this year on 27th September and hosts England star Jude Bellingham on its cover – isn’t worried about a potential revival of the FIFA brand at another developer.

FIFA itself has not been shy about wanting to rope in a new company to make a fresh football game with its branding, following the collapse of its long-running partnership with EA Sports back in 2022.

Rumours have persisted that the FIFA licence has now been picked up by another developer with plans to launch a fresh FIFA product in time for the next World Cup. Who could it be? Well, 2K, publisher of the NBA 2K, PGA Tour 2K and WWE 2K sports series, has reportedly been in the frame.

So, are EA’s FC team worried about a new rival? In sho…

Moomins coming to Journey dev's Sky: Children of the Light this year

Tove Jansson’s beloved Moomins are heading to Journey developer ThatGameCompany’s acclaimed free-to-play “social adventure” Sky: Children of the Light this autumn, and there’s more news on its upcoming animated series Sky: The Two Embers, which is now due next year.

Historical fantasy RPG GreedFall 2 launches into Steam early access this September

GreedFall 2: The Dying World, the sequel to 2019’s scrappy but enjoyable historical fantasy RPG GreedFall, will launch into Steam early access on 24th September this year.

Despite its rough edges, the original GreedFall was a bit of a surprise hit, its blend of RPG action and BioWare-style player choice striking enough of a chord that it went on to sell 2m copies. So it wasn’t a huge surprise when developer Spiders announced plans for a follow-up in 2022.

As we learned at the time, GreedFall 2 begins three years prior to the events of the first game, casting players as a Teer Fradee native, uprooted from their island home and taken to the continent of Gacane. Here, they must use “diplomacy, cunning, or combat”, as well as help from their allies, to regain the…

Translators contracted from firms outside of Nintendo have complained about not being credited for their work on high-profile games from the Mario maker, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario RPG.
Speaking with Game Developer, anonymous sources who worked for external translator agencies on Nintendo’s projects said they had been left off credits. In addition, sources said they had been asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement which prevented them from talking about their work for 10 years.
“I kind of accepted [miscrediting] as ‘part of the business’ but that doesn’t mean it’s fair or right,” one source who worked on Nintendo projects through service providers Localsoft and Keywords told the publication. …
